2005 Domaine Saint Roch Fitou
Fitou, Southern France - $10
It's a bit incredible that one can find such complexity and character in a $10 wine...but here ia another example of how the south of France can be called the world's best value wine region. The Domaine St. Roch is a seamless blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignane, grapes made famous by their inclusion in such wines as Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The 2005 vintage was excellent and this wine is soft in the mid-palate revealing the savory grilled Provencal herbal tones so desired in Rhone-style wines. Drink now with your ratatouille!
